"We will bless the Lord at all times..."

Pastor Derrick Holloway grew up in a Christian family in the Bay Area but chose to live a life of crime and participate in a lifestyle that resulted in him committing a murder. After being convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Pastor Holloway eventually went back to the Christian faith he was raised with. While incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison, he became a Pastor and began preaching the word of God. Soon after he became incarcerated he began reflecting on his life, and knew he had to make a change. This ultimately brought him back to his faith. "Being locked in the cell forced me to confront himself. I had to really face what he had done". The first thing he had to do was ask both my mother and father to come visit me. He wanted to assure them that they did everything that they could, that the choices made were the choices he made. Not long after reconnecting with his parents and spiritual upbringing, he experienced a calling. It wasn’t necessarily one he would have chosen, but one that was given to him anyway. If it was up to him, he would have just been a pew warmer. However, God began to speak to him about things, about life issues, about the church, about society, about our community. And so, something began to be birthed in me. In 2011, I began leading over 350 men in San Quentin Protestant Chapel (For over 15 years). He began to attend Bible Study classes. Graduated from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Shortly after graduating from Gold Gate, he graduated from The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI). I then became a licensed and ordained Pastor in 2012. He became a certified rate crisis intervention counselor and suicide prevention counselor. In 2015 he became a– Victim offenders, education group facilitator (V.O.E.G.). And that's when, to the surprise of many, he became a preacher. It was certainly a surprise to his friends and family. He never would have imagined that he'd be carrying a Bible. Some of them were childhood friends that knew him growing up and saw my illicit activities. And so to see him now it's really a testament to God -- not to himself. We just have to be willing to be changed.
In the Bible, there is a story about a prodigal son who left the loving care of his father and began living a reckless lifestyle. In essence, his story can be compared to that one. And if you ask him, that’s how he'd tell it, too. how he left a stable life under the roof of a Christian father for a life of chaos. Ultimately, he had to return home and ask for forgiveness. “No matter what you are going through, no matter how hard, no matter how difficult … You should never give up because you receive so much mercy -- so much we should all be in a grave.”
In 2023, He became a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Antioch California and looks forward to working alongside Senior Pastor Kirkland A. Smith and several other ministry leaders to change the lives of many and bring them closer to GOD. For the last two years, he has worked for and lead Grace Bible Fellowship 's "OVERCOMERS" MInistry. Helping people fight addictions to many strongholds.
